Sgt. Darren Hubbell, 38

Sgt. E-5 Darren Patrick Hubbell also knows as O.G. (old guy or doc Hub), 38, died Wednesday, June 20 in Iraq. The native of Jacksonville, FL, was a member of Christian Life Fellowship Church in Cobbtown where he played the bass and also preformed with the church praise team.

He was in the Army for 14 years, serving as a Senior Line Medic with the 1st BN, 64th AR, 3d ID for the last seven. He served one tour in Panama Canal, one tour in Afghanistan and four tours in Iraq. He loved to play his computer games was a history buff and enjoyed spending time outside at his fire pit.

Survivors are his wife Dana Hubbell of Metter, son Darren P. Hubbell of Sumner (serving in Iraq); daughter Marina Hubbell of Sumner; step sons Franklin and Nash Rigdon both of Metter; parents, mother and step father Darlene and Kim Larsen; father Gary Hubbell of Jacksonville; brothers Jared and Chad Larsen both of Virginia, his in-laws Rev Murl and Ruth Gwynn of Collins.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, June 30, 2007, at 4:00 p.m. at Christian Life Fellowship Church in Cobbtown with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will begin 10:00 at the church the morning of the funeral until funeral time. Sgt Hubbell will be buried with full military honors.

Herbert Jordan, 78

Mr. Herbert Jordan, 78, passed away Wednesday morning, June 20, 2007, at his residence. The Tattnall County native had lived in Savannah many years before returning to Reidsville 20 years ago. He was a retired Planning Analyst working at Union Camp. He also was a pipe fitter for many years and currently was a pecan farmer. He was a member of the Reidsville United Methodist Church and taught the Lillian Eason Sunday School Class. He was also a member of the Reidsville Lions Club and the Joe’s Kountry Kettle Liar’s Table. Mr. Jordan was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde C. and Mattie Lee Jordan; a brother, Rev. Clyde Lee Jordan.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Norma Jordan of Reidsville; two daughters and son-in-law, Linda Schwanebeck of Reidsville and Victoria and Charles Sasser of Blairesville; a son and daughter-in-law, David H. and Tonie Jordan of Bloomingdale; a sister and brother-in-law, Winzell and Ray Leck of Perrysburg, OH; a sister-in-law, Sue Jordan of Reidsville; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Jeremy Jordan, Tanner Jordan, Aaron Glisson, Donald Kennedy, Van McCall, and John McCall. Honorary pallbearers were Reidsville Lions Club and The Liar’s Table.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 23, 2007, at the Reidsville United Methodist Church with Rev. Marc Foster officiating. Interment followed in the Reidsville City Cemetery.

Wayne Spikes, 65

Wayne Spikes, 65, died Saturday, June 23, 2007, at his residence. The Tattnall County native had lived in Reidsville most of his life. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. He attended Reidsville Church of God. He was preceded in death by his parents, Felton and Beatrice Blitch Spikes; and brothers, Harry Felton “Little Boy” Spikes and Bobby Spikes.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Spikes of Reidsville; sons and daughters-in-law, Harry and Sandra Spikes of Collins, Donald and Deanne Spikes and Ronald and LaTrell Spikes of Hardeeville, SC, and Annette Hickox and Tony Spikes both of Reidsville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Nadine Toler, Eileen and James Willis and Libby and Howard Willis, all of Reidsville and Jean Kersey of Hinesville; sister-in-law, Mary Spikes Groover of Reidsville; grandchildren, Amber, Hally and Hannah Spikes of Collins, Ron, Savanna, and Benjamin Spikes of Hardeeville, SC, and Aleigh Spikes of Jesup; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Monday, June 25 from the Chapel of Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home in Reidsville with the Reverend William Prince officiating. Burial followed in the Reidsville City Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Tony Willis, Rob Hutchinson, Pat Willis, Edward Toler, Ron Clark and Danny Kersey.

LaDarius Trevari “Blue” Williams, 7

LaDarius Trevari “Blue” Williams, 7, died June 21, 2007. He was born on August 29, 1999, to Gary Tootle, Jr., and Anita Williams, both of Glennville. He attended public schools in Tattnall and Long counties. He was a member of White Pine Community Holiness Church of Glennville and a member of the White Pine Community Church youth choir, where he loved to sing and praise God. He also believed in the power of prayer.

He is survived by his parents, Gary Tootle Jr. and Anita Williams of Glennville; brothers, Kenyodrick Tootle, Jamond Williams, Cameron Tootle, Tyrone Smith, and Christopher Grant, all of Glennville; sisters, Keyanna Cook, Keira Cook, Dynasty Jones, Trakio Tiger, Ashan ‘ti Tootle, and Nakia Williams, all of Glennville; grandparents, Angie and Isiah Summerset of Glennville and Gary Tootle Sr., and Annette Tootle of Glennville; great-grandmother, Louise Grant; special uncle, Bernard Bennett; godmother, Penny Collins; and several relatives, friends, and loved ones.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 27, at White Pine Community Holiness Church in Glennville, officiated by Pastor Wallace Grant, Prophet Bernard Bennett, and Bishop Linda Travett. Interment was in Robert Chapel Cemetery in Tyson.

Amy Kennedy, 40

Amy Kennedy, 40 passed away Friday morning, June 15, 2007, at her residence under the care of Pearls of Life Hospice. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville and Reidsville most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of the Ebenezer Freewill Baptist Church in Glennville. She was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Nell Franklin Kennedy.

She is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Danielle and Randy Crane and Roseanne Gillis, all of Reidsville; a sister, Donna Kennedy Reid of Reidsville; a grandson, Jasper Lee Crane of Reidsville; a nephew, Christopher Reid of Reidsville; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Pallbearers were Lee Bacon, Travis Jones, Chad Scott, Chris Davis, Gene Day, and Jamie Young.

Dianne Parker-Emerson, 60

Mrs. Dianne Parker-Emerson, 60 passed away Tuesday evening, June 12, 2007, at Memorial Health Medical University Center after a short illness. The Toombs County native had lived in the New Branch Community all of her life. She was an information specialist retiring from “DOIM” at Fort Stewart after 35 years of service. She was a member of the Reidsville United Methodist Church and attended the New Branch Methodist Church. She was preceded to Heaven by her parents, Mr. Bennie Parker and Mrs. Eloise Anderson Parker.

She is survived by her husband, Mark Emerson of New Branch; step-daughter, Stephanie Pinard of Pulaski; a step-son, Tuck Emerson of Effingham County; a brother and sister-in-law, George Walton and Martha Jordan Parker of Vidalia; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pallbearers were Herschel Hart, Wayman Parker, David Toole, Jason Parker, Walt Cox, Brandon Parker, Lang Dunham, and Don Jordan.

Carl B. Bacon, 71

Carl B. Bacon, 71, was born in Bulloch County, Georgia, July 5, 1935, to Mr. Jack Bacon and Bertha Radford Bacon. As a child he attended St. Luke Baptist Church in Daisy, Georgia. In 2005 he accepted Christ. He worked on the Durrence Farm for 50 or more years.

Carl B. Bacon departed his life on June 9, 2007, at Memorial Hospital in Savannah, Georgia. He is preceded in death by Mildred Gibson, mother of his children; son, Mark Bacon; and brother, J.W. Bacon.

He leaves to mourn: one daughter, Carlene Bacon; three grandchildren he raised, Kawana, Timothy and Akeem; seven other grandchildren, Marius, Zach, Chris, Martrell, Chad, Nigel and Tacita; daughter-in-law, Lorriane Bacon of Dublin, GA; step-children, Shirley Johnson, Willie Braggs, Willie Gibson of Glennville, Terry Gibson of Sylvania, GA, Clifford Gibson of Augusta, GA, and Rutina Gibson of Metter, GA; four sisters, Ella (Charlie) McDonald of Woodbine, GA, Elder Ruby (Roger) Baker of Folkston, GA, Edna Carter of Waycross, GA, and Mary Conner of Glennville, GA; three great-grandchildren, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends and special friends Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Durrence and family.

Services will be held Saturday, June 16, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. at First African Baptist Church in Glennville, with Rev. Martin Bacon presiding and Elder Ruby Baker officiating. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers. Interment will follow at Robert Chapel Cemetery in Glennville.

Robin Baker Doster, 76

Robin Baker Doster, 76, of Ben Powell, Jr. Street, died Monday, June 4, 2007, at a local hospital.

Mrs. Doster was born March 11, 1931, in Macon and had lived in Cobbtown for the past two years. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Bake Sr. Mrs. Doster graduated from Tifton High School in 1964. She graduated from Norman-Vereen School of Nursing in Moultrie. She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Moultrie, St. Anne’s Episcopal Church in Tifton, Prince George Winyah Episcopal Church in Georgetown, SC, Christ Episcopal Church in Dublin and Good Shepard Episcopal Church in Swainsboro. Mrs. Doster was a registered nurse for 43 years, working at Vereen Memorial Hospital in Moultrie, Tift General Hospital in Tifton and the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center Nursing Home Care Unit in Dublin. She loved nursing, especially nursing older people such as she nursed at the VA Medical Center.

Mrs. Doster is survived by her husband of 43 years, the Reverend Daniel H. Doster of Cobbtown; daughters, Christopher Robin Doster Eagy of Dexter and Sally Sheppard Doster Powell of Cobbtown; sister, Billie Baker Brown of Albany; four grandsons, and five great-grandchildren.

Services were held Friday, June 8, 2007, at Christ Episcopal Church in Dublin, with the Rt. Rev. Henry I. Louttit, Bishop of Georgia, officiating and the Rev. Joy Fisher of Trinity Episcopal Church of Cochran delivering the sermon.

Swinton D. Durrence, 83, of Glennville, died Wednesday morning in the Glenvue Nursing Home after an extended illness. He had lived in the Reidsville and Glennville area most of his life, was a retired farmer and a member of the Reidsville United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Pearl Durrence; a son, Randy Durrence; a daughter, Claudette Collins; brothers Segal and Bobby Durrence and a sister Edra Burns.

He is survived by his daughters and son-in-laws, Cyndee and Roland Bass of Lyons, Scarlet Dubberly and Heather Williams, both of Glennville and Brandee Iddins of Lyons; sons and daughters-in-law, Beuford Durrence of Hinesville, Dale and Joy Durrence of Glennville and Gary and Darla Durrence of Glenn-St. Mary, FL; sisters, Rita Watson of Vidalia and Sue Hommel of Savannah; brothers, Kenneth Durrence and D.L. Durrence of Reidsville; 17 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were conducted Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Stanfield Family Cemetery with Danny Lynn officiating.

Pallbearers were Steve Durrence, Greg Durrence, Kyle Durrence, Dennis Durrence, Shannon Yarborough and Mark McCall.

Nadine Kicklighter, 88

Nadine Kicklighter, 88, passed away Friday, June 8, 2007, at Candler Hospital in Savannah. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville all of her life. She was a homemaker, a member of Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church, where she served as church pianist for many years. She was a member of the Ladies Church Circle, a member of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class and Sunday School Teacher.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Kicklighter,S and a foster son, Dean Kicklighter.

She is survived by her grandchildren, Brian Kicklighter, of Sylvania and Karen K. Barber of Rincon; sister Ava Jean Lightsey of Claxton; seven great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Monday, June 11, 2007, at Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church with Elder David Summerford officiating. Burial followed in the Church Cemetery.

Winton Lynn, 76, died Wednesday, June 6, 2007, at Evans Memorial Hospital. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville all of his life. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and retired from Civil Service at Ft. Stewart. He attended Calvary Baptist and Stoney Hill Baptist Church.

He is survived by his sisters, Letha Byrum, Mae Belle Kicklighter, Ora Belle Blocker, and Evelyn Lynn, all of Glennville; brother, Earl Lynn of Glennville; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 9, 2007, in the chapel of Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home with Reverend Harris Nix officiating. Burial followed in the Glennville City Cemetery.

Keiondray J. Marshall, infant son of Jennifer Graham and Keith Marshall, died Tuesday, June 5, 2007, at Memorial Health University Center.

Datie Lois “Lucy” Moody, 86

Datie Lois “Lucy” Moody, 86, died Friday in Savannah.

Mrs. Moody was a native of Collins and moved to Savannah in 1951. She was a homemaker and an active member of the East Savannah Church of God.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Herman T. and Susan Moody of Claxton; daughters and son-in-law, Vicki Lewis, Bonnaire “Peachy” and William E. Ginn, all of Savannah; sister, Navis “Babe” Oliver of Collins; seven grandsons and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Moody were conducted Monday at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, with Reverend Jim Rogers officiating. Burial followed in Collins Baptist Church Cemetery.

Infant Regina Abigail Gonzalez, two weeks old, passed away Friday afternoon, June 1, 2007. She is survived by her parents, Jose and Erika Gonzalez of Reidsville; a brother, Victor Manuel Gonzalez of Reidsville; maternal grandparents, Magdaleno and Maria Estrada of Reidsville; paternal grandparents, Nicholas and Antonia Gonzalez of Reidsville; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Pallbearers were Jose Gonzalez and Magdaleno Estrada.

Funeral Mass was held on Monday, June 4, 2007, at 3:00 p.m. at St. Andrews Catholic Church with Father Angel officiating. Interment followed in the Reidsville City Cemetery.
