Joe Brown Durrence, Jr., 71

“J.B.” Joe Brown Durrence, Jr., 71, passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at his residence. The Tattnall County native had lived in this area all of his life and was a U.S. Air Force Veteran. He was employed with Sea Board Coast Line Railroad and Brent Walker Ford for many years. He was co-owner of Glennville Hardware for many years and a farmer and horseman. He was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church and of the Sunshine Sunday school class. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Brown and Vivian “Tink” Durrence; a brother, McCoy Durrence and an infant brother.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Joyce A. Durrence of Glennville; children, Lesa and David Holland, Audrey and Pedro Claudio and Jay and Michelle Durrence, all of Glennville; sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and Dan Hodges of Glennville; sister-in-law, Marklyn Durrence of Jacksonville, FL; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Marian Collins of Glennville; grandchildren, Andrea, Brittany, Brett, Peter, Marisa, Jayla, Mackenzie and several nieces and nephews.

Celebration of 71 years of life services were held on Saturday, July 26, 2008, at Harmony United Methodist Church conducted by Reverend Truett Leveritt. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Princeton Pirkle, Merriell Durrence, David Medlock, Mike Holland, Steve Long, Wayne Tatum, Ricky Wilson and Brent Walker.

John S. Hopkins, Jr., 70

John S. Hopkins, Jr., 70, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2008, at his residence. The Duval County Florida native had lived in Loganville for many years, prior to moving to Glennville one year ago. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and retired from the Atlanta Journal Constitution. He was of the Mormon Faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Markham Hopkins.

He is survived by a son, John Holland Hopkins; a daughter, Hollie Hopkins, both of Loganville; two sisters, Wanda and Vonnie; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at Glennville City Cemetery.

Betty “Bet” Mincey Kicklighter, 64

Betty “Bet” Mincey Kicklighter, 64, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2008, at her residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The Appling County native had lived in Glennville most of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Kicklighter; son, Glenn Kicklighter and granddaughter, Tiffany Kicklighter.

She is survived by her children, Cathy Arnold of Seale, AL, Teresa Jones, Mellisa Kicklighter, Terry Kicklighter, Barry Kicklighter, all of Glennville and Grady Kicklighter of Darien; brother and sisters, Roy Mincey and Nell Bolen, both of Savannah and Shirley O’Neal and Linda Burke, both of Glennville; fourteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at the Chapel of Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home with Reverend Bryan Anderson officiating. Burial followed in Beards Creek Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Ed Clarke, Justin Williams, Dana Reynolds, Michael Burke, Tim Jones and Billy Dukes.

Larry J. Wilson, 72

“L.J.” Larry J. Wilson, 72, passed away Friday, July 25, 2008, at Community Hospice Center in Vidalia. The Screven County native had lived in Savannah and Glennville most of his life. He was a graduate of Commercial High School in Savannah, retired from Union Camp Corporation, a Marine Veteran and an avid gun collector and restorer. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Averi Anna Murray.

He is survived by his wife, Dianne Rush Wilson of Glennville; children, Mike and Ginger, Wilson of Glennville, Brian and Jane Wilson of Houston, TX, and Amy and Rob Murray of Glennville; grandchildren, Elizabeth Wilson of Forsyth, Dallas, Aaron and Sarah Wilson all of Houston, TX and Allee and Emma Murray of Glennville; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 28, 2008, at the Chapel of Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home with Dr. Charles (Bucky) Strickland and Reverend Michael Morgan officiating. Burial followed in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Allan Bergdoll, Glenn Purcell, Neal Thompson, David Rush, Steve Rush and Dennis Strickland. Honorary pallbearers Reggie Crosby, Dave Turner, Marvin Lariscy, Parker Blount, Bill Smith, Billy Wilson and Charlie Peacock.

Obituaries for July 24, 2008

Lillian Coleman, 81

Mrs. Lillian Coleman, 81, passed into eternal rest on July 14, 2008, at the Glenvue Nursing Home in Glennville, GA, under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice, after a long illness. She was born on April 19, 1927, the third of seven children to Rufus L. and Sarah Moody in Liberty County, GA.

She was educated in the Tattnall County School system. At an early age she became a member of the First African Baptist Church in Glennville, GA. She was also employed by the school system until she decided to go into business for herself.

In 1946, she married George Earnest King (he preceded her in death in March 2008). To that union eight wonderful children were born. Later, she married Charles “Big Daddy” Coleman and they added four more children to their family. Big Daddy was called to be with the Lord April 2006.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rufus L. and Sarah Moody; siblings, John, Emory, Reginald and Elizabeth and children, George, Wyndall and Angelyn.

She leaves to cherish her memories her children, Henry Edward (Connie) of Lawrenceville, GA, Diane Denise “Niscey” Roberts (James Ivy), Sarah Wilcox “Bull” (Louis) and Charles “Mullah” (Cheryl Denise McMillan) and Marilyn all of Glennville, Rufus (Carol Jean), Margaret King Drinks, James Earnest “Peaty” (Ilene) and William Cornelius “Neal” (Sharon) of Stone Mountain, GA, her brother, Rufus, and his wife Lizzie of Glennville, GA and her youngest sister, Wynette Bradford, and her husband James, of Slugsburg, New York; over thirty grandchildren and a host of great-grands, nieces, nephews and friends. And, needless to say, a special part of her extended family who has been with her from the beginning to the end, offering prayers and giving support when needed, Ruben and Novella King and Pinkie Mae and Willie Brown, Anne J. Lett and Gene Bennett of Glennville; Zadine Walker and Bernice Collins of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 19, 2008, at the Center of Life Church of God at 1202 Martin Luther King Drive in Glennville, GA, with Dr. Randy King presiding and Reverend William Miller officiating. Pallbearers were her grandsons and flower attendants were her granddaughters.

Randall (Buttercup) Coleman, 68

Randall (Buttercup) Coleman, 68 died Tuesday, July 15, 2008, after an extended illness. The native of Emanuel County lived most of his life in the Vidalia area where he was a member of Cedar Crossing Baptist Church. Randall was a line supervisor with Georgia Power, retiring in 1995. He was very proud of his talented musical family and loved hearing them perform. He was an avid deer hunter, loved NASCAR, the Atlanta Braves, and attending classic car shows.

Survivors: his wife of 49 years, Jeanette Moore Coleman; children: Melinda Sue (Leslie R. “Butch”) May of Waldorf, MD, Rhonda Jean (John F.) Morgan of Vidalia, John (Carla Jean) Coleman of Tarrytown, Cathy Whitfield (Don Kennedy) of Metter; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren; sisters, Ruby Lee Humphrey of Vidalia, Bonnie Ree Drury of Lyons, and Grace Cowart of Center. Randall was predeceased by his parents, John Henry and Lindy Salome Foskey Coleman, and brother John Henry Coleman Jr.

A celebration of life will be held 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 18, 2008, at Cedar Crossing Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers remembrances to Community Hospice, P.O. James Eston Dyal, 87

James Eston Dyal, 87, passed away Monday, July 21, 2008, at Candler Hospital in Savannah. He was born and raised in Appling County, Georgia before moving to Glennville where he was the owner and operator of Dixie Auto Parts until his retirement. He was a loving husband, grandfather and an avid hunter and fisherman, knowing Fort Stewart like a book. He loved drag racing, building racecars and his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Ida Pearl Dyal.

He is survived by a special niece, Marie “Tiny” Sellers, of Jesup, GA; step-son, Mike Crummey of Glennville; sisters, Meta Bullard of Jacksonville, FL, Lillian Padon of Jesup, GA and Lottie Mae Johnson of Baxley, GA; brother, Lorace Dyal of Baxley, GA; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren and other relatives.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Chapel with Reverend Ernest Dyal officiating. Burial followed in Loves Chapel Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Daniel Crummey, Brandon Crummey, Keith DeLoach, Al Randall, Albert Dyal and Selina Dyal.

John W. “Bill” Hammock Jr., 53

John W. “Bill” Hammock Jr., age 53 of Swainsboro, GA, died Friday, July 11, 2008, at the M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX, after an extended illness.

Mr. Hammock was a native of Emanuel County, co-owner of Emanuel Peanut & Grain Mill and Cooter Creek Farms and also attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton. He was retired from UPS, a farmer, a member of Mt. Shady Baptist Church and attended Emanuel Christian Ministries. He was preceded in death by his parents, John W. and Johnnie Bell Sullivan Hammock, and his brother, Harold Hammock.

Survivors include his wife, Lisa Hammock of Swainsboro, GA.; one daughter and son-in-law, Maria and Brian Holland of Reidsville, GA; one son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Crystal Hammock of Swainsboro, GA; one sister and brother-in-law, Romona and Bunny Hudson of Swainsboro, GA; two grandchildren, Tucker Holland of Reidsville, GA and Molly Hammock of Swainsboro, GA.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 15, 2008, in Emanuel Christian Ministries, with the Rev. Bunny Hudson officiating. Interment followed in the Mt. Shady Baptist Church Cemetery.

John Joseph Hutchinson, 59

John Joseph Hutchinson, 59, of Reidsville, GA, passed away July 20, 2008, at the Glendale Nursing Home in Wadley, GA, after an extended illness. Funeral services will be private.

Mr. Hutchinson was a native of Camden County, NJ. He was a member of the Baptist faith. He was a retired flooring installer and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

Survivors include a son, John J. Hutchinson Jr.; daughter, Jeannie (D.J.) Bradshaw; grandsons, Troy Hutchinson and Wyatt Bradshaw, all of Hawkinsville, GA; sister, Sara (Michael) Alexander; one niece, three nephews and one great-nephew, all of Warner Robins, GA.

Dennis Bacon White, 50

Dennis Bacon White, 50, passed away Tuesday morning, July 15, 2008, at his home after a brief illness. Dennis grew up and graduated from high school in Swainsboro. He attended the University of Georgia and was a member of the Red Coats Marching Band. He served in the United States Navy, and spent most of his Navy tenure aboard a submarine assigned to the Mediterranean. After an honorable discharge, Dennis completed a B.S. degree at Armstrong University and taught middle school science in the Chatham County School System, for a number of years. After leaving the teaching profession, Dennis was a field technical representative in the Southeastern U.S. District for Telesat Canada until his death. He was an avid outdoorsman, and a frequent tournament player and long-time member of the Swainsboro Golf and Country Club. He was a competitive fisherman and a member of the Ohoopee Bass Masters Club.

Dennis was the only son of the late Joan B. and J.D. White. He is survived by his aunt, Mrs. Joe N. White of Beaverton, AL; first cousins, Jon and Lester Kaney of Ormond Beach, FL, Kathryn Kaney of Glennville; Diane Hankins of Macon, MS, Vickie Norwood of Beaverton, AL, and Steve White of Millport, AL; his beloved longtime housekeeper and friend of the family, Miss Mary Smith and a very large extended family.

Funeral services were held Friday, July 18, 2008, at Beards Creek Church Cemetery, with Reverend Vance Riggins officiating.

Pallbearers were Kenny Banks, Wayne Brewton, Mike Farrow, Phil Hiltbrunner, Steve Rush and Frank Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Maggie Banks, Brent Blocker, Charles Blocker, Joseph Easterling, Chris Farrow and Josh Wimberly.

Roy L. Anderson, 56

Roy L. Anderson, age 56, of Grayson, GA, died on July 12, 2008, after an extended illness. He is survived by his wife, Jan Hicks Anderson; children, Kevin Noel Anderson and Leland Blake Anderson both of Grayson, GA; daughter-in-law, Jessica Anderson of Madison, GA; grandchildren, Kylie Lucia Anderson, Amelia Leone Anderson, William Noel Anderson, all of Madison, GA; brothers and sister-in-law, Harry Anderson of Vidalia, John Anderson of Lyons, and Roger and Shelley Anderson of Gaston, SC; sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Chuck Parrish of Vidalia, GA; brother-in-law and wife, Len and Lana Hicks of Americus, GA; sister-in-law and husband, Carole and Jack Wintle of Duluth, GA and several nieces and nephews.

He was born in Claxton, GA on July 30, 1951, to Raymond Monroe Anderson and Margaret Carolyn Barrow Anderson. He graduated from Reidsville High School and Georgia Perimeter College. He served in the United States Army and was an avid fisherman and golfer. One of the proudest moments in his life was being able to attend college. Roy’s greatest joys were his wife, children, and especially his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Carolyn Anderson and a sister, Mary Joyce Conaway.

The service celebrating the life of Roy L. Anderson was held Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at Corinth Christian Church, with Reverend Don Hardison and Reverend Lester Waters officiating. William H. Dixon, 44

William H. Dixon, 44, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2008, at his residence. The Bacon County native had lived in this area most of his life. He was a graduate of Glennville High School and was employed with Claxton Poultry Farms in Glennville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie T. and Jessie Dixon and foster father, Cecil Godwin.

He is survived by brothers and sisters, Faye Griffin of Brooklet, James Dixon of Lyons, Jessie Martin of Jacksonville, FL, John E. Dixon of Savannah and Stanley Smith of Baxley; foster mother, Vera Godwin of Glennville; foster brothers, Jimmy Godwin of Ellabelle, Kenneth Godwin of Jacksonville, FL and Tommy Godwin of Reidsville and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 15, 2008, from the Chapel of Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home with Reverend Ernest Dyal officiating. Burial followed in the Hazlehurst City Cemetery. Pallbearers were family members.

Mike Graham, 50

Mike Graham, 50, died Saturday, July 6, 2008, after a brief illness. The native of Florida lived in Collins and Hagan for several years, and resided in Statesboro most of his adult life. Mike was employed with Georgia Southern University Physical Plant as the Carpenter Supervisor for many years. He was preceded in death by his father, James Graham. Mike was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Connie Graham of Statesboro; a son and his girlfriend, Alex Graham and Callie Paige of Statesboro; a daughter and son-in-law, Rachel and Adam Cowart of Reidsville; a stepdaughter and her husband, Olivia and Brandon O’Mahoney of Statesboro; two stepsons, Adam Aseron and his wife Lauren and Jonathan Aseron, all of Austin, TX; four granddaughters, Morgan and Mollie Cowart of Reidsville and Valor and Atlas O’Mahoney of Statesboro; his mother, Charlotte Graham of Statesboro; a sister and brother-in-law, Gina and David Tuohey of Slidell, LA; a brother, Jeffery Graham of Macon; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Alfred and Irene Pritchard of Hannibal, NY; three nephews, Jonathan, Joel and Joshua and his beloved Jack Russell, “Copper”.

Funeral Services were held Monday, July 7, 2008, in the Chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Ronnie Alderman officiating. Interment followed in the Bulloch Memorial Gardens.

Freddie Lewis “Bouy” Love, 76

Freddie Lewis “Bouy” Love, 76, passed away on Friday, July 4, 2008, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, after a short illness.

He was born in Swainsboro on September 15, 1931, and moved to Savannah in 1948. He was a resident of Bloomingdale for 50 years and was a member of Ash Street Baptist Church in Bloomingdale.

He is survived by his wife, Annie W. Love; a son, Gary Love; a daughter, Mary Ann Tucker; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Monday, July 7, 2008, in the chapel of Thomas C. Strickland and Sons Funeral Home, with graveside funeral following at Little Flock Baptist Church Cemetery in Collins.

Lucille Green Odom, 85

Lucille Green Odom, 85, died Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at Tara Nursing Home in Thunderbolt. The Tattnall County native had lived in this area all of her life. She was a clerk at the Chamber of Commerce Office for the City of Glennville and a member of the Eastern Star in Savannah. She was a member of Glennville First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the Amanda DeLoach Sunday school class.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Norval Odom; a grandson, Jay Burkhalter and a son-in-law, Rochelle Rich Jr.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, June C. Rich of Savannah, Ethel C. and Ronald Sikes of Columbia, SC, and Gail C. and Jerry D. Burkhalter of Glennville; brothers and sisters, Sydney Williams, Dorothy Collins, Clarence Green, Willie Mae Mills and Eunice Powell, all of Cobbtown; five grandchildren, six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Thursday, July 3, 2008, from the Chapel of Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home, with Reverend Julian Larson officiating. Burial followed in the Glennville City Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Steve Rich, Spencer Rich, Michael Robinson, Brandon Johnson, Luke Burkhalter and David Robinson.

David Carl Reynolds, 72

David Carl Reynolds, age 72, went to be with his wonderful Savior on Sunday, July 5, 2008, with his loving wife by his side.

David was born in Toombs County on December 23, 1935, to the late Clarence Reynolds and Ella Holland Reynolds. He had lived in Macon for many years and was retired from Greyhound Bus Lines, where he worked for many years. He loved worshipping the Lord and he was a devoted member of Bloomfield Church of God until he became ill, still attending when his health allowed.

David is survived by his wife of 35 years, Janice Harrison Reynolds; one son, Dennis Reynolds of Glennville; five grandchildren, Jessica, Deana and Derell Reynolds of Hardeeville, SC, and Kyle and Jeffrey Winningham of Savannah; one sister, Josephine Whitfield (Randy) of Reidsville; brothers, Lamar Reynolds (Kathryn) of Reidsville and Reuben Reynolds (Trudy) of Warner Robins; a very loving father in law and best fishing partner anyone could ever have, Wade Harrison of Toombs County; brothers in law, David Harrison (Angie) of Athens and Randy Harrison of Toombs County; and sister in law, Josephine Harrison Toole (Bobby) of Uvalda.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 8, 2008, in the Chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home. The Reverend Reginald McCarn and Mr. Fred Horton officiated. Interment followed in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.

Earl Ballantine Simmons, 90

Earl Ballantine Simmons, 90, passed away Sunday, July 6, 2008, in Hilliard, Florida, surrounded by his loved ones. Mr. Simmons was born July 15, 1917, in Jacksonville, FL. He was a retired Baptist minister and schoolteacher. He was ordained at Calvary Baptist Church in Palatka, Florida and educated at Stetson University and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He taught Language Arts at Joseph Stilwell for many years, and his last pastorate was at Bayard Baptist Church.

He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 67 years, Jimmie Tucker Simmons, formerly of Glennville; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Richard Prosser and Carol and Jerry Wollitz; grandchildren, Rob Placek, Mike and Pam Placek, Amy W. and Ron Comeens, Gerald and Lee Anne Wollitz, Jason and Melissa Wollitz, Justin and Sara Wollitz and Jared and Lori Wollitz; and 13 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 9, 2008, from the chapel of Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home with grandsons, Reverend Gerald Wollitz and Jason Wollitz, officiating. Burial followed in Watermelon Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Rob Placek, Mike Placek, Jason Wollitz, Justin Wollitz, Jared Wollitz and Ron Comeens. Honorary pallbearers were deacons of Glennville First Baptist Church.

Russell Weldon, 57

Russell Weldon, 57, passed away Monday, July 7, 2008, at Tattnall Community Hospital in Reidsville, GA.

He is survived by his children, Russell Weldon, Esther Richardson, Felicia Beatty, Trina Richardson, Marcell Beatty and Stephanie Weldon King; one sister, Doreen Weldon; three brothers, Will, O.J. and Sylvester Weldon; six grandchildren and a host of cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2008, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at James E. Churchman, Jr. Funeral Home, 345-13th Avenue, Newark, New Jersey.

James R. “Bobby” Wilkinson, 80

James R. “Bobby” Wilkinson, 80, died Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at Glenvue Nursing home after an extended illness. He was a native and life-long resident of Tattnall County. He was a 1946 graduate of Glennville High School and a U.S. Air Force Veteran. After returning from service he farmed for several years and was employed with Rayonier, Inc. He worked with civil service at Ft. Stewart and retired after 27 years as a forestry technician. He was a member of the Glennville First Christian Church, where he served as deacon and elder, and was also a member of the VFW Post #8379.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Swindell Wilkinson; his parents, Dewey and Mary Wilkinson; a sister, Anne Kortrey and a brother, Samuel Wilkinson.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Linda Swindell of Waynesboro; daughter, Rebecca Swindell of Denver, Colorado; sister, Nell Armstrong and Alice Wilkinson, both of Glennville; brothers, Roger Wilkinson and Gene Wilkinson, both of Glennville; grandson, Elak Swindell of Waynesboro; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 3, 2008, at Glennville First Christian Church with Reverend Wendell Miller officiating. Burial followed in Glennville City Cemetery.

Pallbearers were S.E. Smith, Mickey Wasson, Bobby Kicklighter, Mike Gutierrez, Elton Durrence and Joe Troha. Honorary pallbearers were deacons and elders and their wives of First Christian Church.

Elton McCord Anderson, 95

Elton McCord Anderson, 95, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at the home of his daughter, Janis A. McCurdy. He was born in Tattnall County on December 16, 1912 to the late Henry Hampton and Cassie Sullivan Anderson. He graduated in 1932 as Valedictorian of Ways Station High School in Bryan County. He attended Georgia Teachers College in Statesboro. He was president of the Supply Company from 1980-2005 and was a member of Cornerstone Bible Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Sue Nell Dreggors Anderson and son, Robert Elton Anderson.

He is survived by his daughter, Janis Anderson McCurdy son-in-law, Jimmy of Glennville; grandson, Lee McCurdy and wife Stephanie of Shellman Bluff; granddaughter, Lisa McCurdy Barry and husband Rob of Glennville; six great grandchildren, Turner, Mollie and Anderson McCurdy of Shellman Bluff and Blake, Cassie and Amanda Barry of Glennville; other relatives, Samantha Griffin, Racile and Barbara Dreggors, William and Novadean Dreggors, Elaine Dreggors, Larry Dreggors, nieces, nephews and several cousins.

Funeral services were held Friday, June 27, 2008, from the Chapel of Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home with Brother Robert Kicklighter officiating. Burial followed in Pigott Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Mike Dreggors, Steve Dreggors, Daniel Dreggors, Mark Griffin, Glenn Purcell and Ronald (Bo) Davis.

Corley Burroughs, 72

Corley Burroughs, age 72, passed away early Sunday morning, June 29, 2008. He left behind his wife of 50 years, Lynette, one daughter, Deidre, and his precious grandchildren, Samantha, Dalton, Sara, Laura, and Jason. Corley was a fighter and throughout his illness, he did his best to take care of his farm and family. He was loved by many and had many friends and family that he held in highest esteem. Although Corley had no sons of his own, over the years he came to love Ron, Joe, Shelby, David, and Eric like his own. His highest priority was his family and he opened his home and heart often to those who needed it. Once he retired, he found no greater pleasure than watching his grandchildren enjoy “the farm,” watching his garden grow, and watching his cows graze in the pasture. He will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by those who knew him.

Funeral Services for Mr. Corley Burroughs, were held Wednesday, July 2, 2008, in the Chapel of Murchison Funeral Home of Vidalia, GA. Rev. Johnny Dozier officiated. Interment followed at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville, GA.

Ethelle Bishop Georgeff, 85

Ethelle Bishop Georgeff, 85, passed away Sunday, June 29, 2008, at Glenvue Nursing home. The Cherokee County Georgia native had lived in Detroit, MI, for many years, prior to moving to Glennville in 1993. She was employed in the automobile manufacturing industry and the food service industry in Michigan. After moving to Glennville, she was employed at the Annie C. House as a caregiver for many years and was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Joseph and Theora Cowart Bishop and husband, George Georgeff.

She is survived by nieces and nephews, Betty and Denver Barrow of Glennville; Patsy and Carlton Black of Chattanooga, TN, Roy and Norma Bishop of Tacoma, WA, Harry and Gail Bishop of Cartersville, GA, Vivian and Fred Buchanan of Lagrange, GA, Earlene and Hank Barrett of Marietta, GA and Edith and Fred Zucker of Kannapolis, NC.

Memoralization will be by cremation and inurnment will be in the Mausoleum of Glennville Memorial Gardens.

Bernard Paul Jones, 77

Bernard Paul Jones, 77, died Friday, June 27, 2008, at his residence in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The Tattnall County native had lived in Lake Charles for the past 35 years. After serving in the U.S. Army from 1949 to 1956, he was honorably discharged. He was a Korean War Veteran where he was wounded in action while serving his country. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Irene Jones; brother, Morice Jones and son-in-law, Harry Copeland.

He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Lisa Copeland and Lauri and Scott Gentry, all of Orlando, FL; sisters, Myra Jane Wright of Baton Rouge, LA and Shirley Drewry of Orlando, FL; grandchildren, Emily, Anna and Kara Gentry, all of Orlando, FL and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville with military honors.

Remembrances may be made to a hospice of the donor’s choice.

Lucile DeLoach Spikes, 77

Mrs. Lucile DeLoach Spikes, 77, passed away early Sunday morning, June 29, 2008, at Meadows Regional Medical Center. The Toombs County native had lived in Reidsville most of her life. She was a cook at the Sandwich Depot for several years and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of Elza Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her parents, Olen DeLoach and Sweetie Mae Randall DeLoach, and her husband, Bennie Spikes.

She is survived by: two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Wendell Oliver of Collins and Peggy and Carl Braddy of Lyons; brother, Rufus DeLoach of Reidsville; three grandchildren, Marty and Diane Oliver, Ronnie and Stacey Oliver and Richard and Karen Braddy; several great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at Elza Baptist Church, with Reverend Kenneth Green officiating. Interment followed in the Reidsville City Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Pallbearers were Al Sikes, Donavan Murray, Larry Allen, David Crews, Mark Crews and Billy Collins.
