Wilma J. Oliver Deal, 71

Richard Matthew Bartley, 24, died at his residence Saturday, July 21, 2007. He was a native of Lake City, FL, having lived the past 19 years in Glennville. He was a member of Penobscot Indian Nation of Indian Island, ME. Matthew worked as a carpenter and in lawn maintenance. He was an avid fisherman and attended Little Rock Baptist Church in Glennville. Matthew had an outgoing sense of humor and loved everyone.

He is preceded in death by two grandfathers, Charlie Bartley and Carl G. Merritt Sr.

Survivors are his parents, Carl and Colleen Merritt of Glennville; one sister, Melissa Bartley of Glennville; three brothers, Branden Merritt and Anthony Merritt, both of Glennville and Nicholas Bartley of Chesterville, PA; grandparents, Curtis and Patricia Johnson of Glennville and Marge Bartley of Live Oak, FL; his father, Richard Bartley of Pennsylvania; two uncles Robert Bartley of Live Oak, FL and Kenneth Bartley of Texas and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services were held Thursday, July 26, 2007, at the Little Rock Baptist Church in Glennville. Reverend Bryan Anderson officiated. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Charles Belfield Sr., 56

Charles Belfield Sr., age 56, died Saturday, July 14, 2007.

Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Belfield; children, Charles Jr., Wayne, Andrea, Erik, Shirley, Teresa, Erica, LaToya and Mignon. Funeral services were held on July 24, 2007 at Glennville Memorial Garden Cemetery in Glennville, GA.

George Leonard Dansen Sr., 87

George Leonard Dansen Sr., age 87, died Saturday, July 21, 2007, at his residence after an extended illness. He was a native of New Jersey, having lived the past 18 years in Glennville. Mr. Dansen was a U.S. Navy veteran and was an excavating contractor by trade. He loved his family and his hobby was woodworks.

Mr. Dansen is survived by his lovely wife of 67 years; Rose Hannam Dansen of Glennville; sons, George L. Dansen Jr. of Rochelle Park, NJ and Richard W. Dansen Sr. of Bushkill, PA; daughter, Roseann Mestell of Ringwood, NJ; brother, Peter Dansen of Diamond Point, NY; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were private.

Robert Asa Duncan, 84

Robert Asa Duncan, age 84, went to the Lord on Tuesday, July 17, 2007, at Coastal Manor Nursing Home. Robert was born February 14, 1923 in Bowman, GA. He was a resident of Palm Harbor, FL, for 51 years before moving to Ludowici several years ago. He was retired from Clearwater Concrete Industries, Inc. after 40 years of loyal and faithful service. He was the superintendent over all rolling equipment and plant operations. He and his family are charter members of Berea Baptist Church in Palm Harbor, FL. He was instrumental from groundbreaking to the completion of the church. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lacy and Georgia Duncan and brother, James L. Duncan.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lois H. Duncan of Ludowici; daughter and son-in-law, Laynette and Roy Ferguson of Ludowici; sons and daughters-in-law, Lacy and Eloise Duncan and Joseph Duncan and Diane Titchenell of Ludowici and Jerry and Celeta Duncan of Palm Harbor, FL.; brother and sister-in-law, Sammy and Nell Duncan of Waynesboro, TN; sisters and brother-in-law, Annie Jones of Barnwell, SC, Willie Jean Winn and Virginia Michaels both of Bowman, GA, Mamie Jo Peeples of Atlanta and Milner Mae and Junior Hartzog of Barnwell, SC; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday, July 20, 2007, in the Chapel of Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Bargeron officiating. Burial followed in the Glennville Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were his grandsons.

John B. (Jack) Hedderick, 80

John B. (Jack) Hedderick, 80, of Collins, GA, formerly of Erie, PA, died peacefully at his home on July 18, 2007. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Hattie Hedderick of Erie, PA. He is survived by several cousins among whom are Jean Hedderick of Erie and Donna Rensel of Brecksville, OH. Special friends are Sally and Bob Senger of Bradenton, FL, Winsor Anderson Smith and Sandra Gettis of Lyons and Susan Jenkins of Statesboro.

Graveside Funeral Services were held Friday, July 20, 2007, at the Reidsville City Cemetery with Rev. Carl Ledbetter officiating.

Sara Zorn Nobles Jones, 87

Sara Zorn Nobles Jones, 87, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2007, at Glenvue Nursing Home under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville all of her life. She was a homemaker, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of Glennville Freewill Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by parents, Daniel Oreatus and Lela DeLoach Zorn, sisters; June Durrence, Delma Stanfield, Roslan Driggers and brother Dan Zorn.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Franklin and Kathy Nobles of Glennville and Mike and Lori Jones of Plains, OH; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held July 24, 2007, at Ebenezer Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Charles Barnard officiating.

Pallbearers were Eli Love, Vance Howard, Mike Howard, Richard Howard, Anthony Howard and Jimmy Howard.

Doretha “Dot” Nobles Purcell, 85

Doretha “Dot” Nobles Purcell, 85, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2007, at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Jacksonville. The Tattnall County native had lived in Jacksonville and Glennville most of her life. She was retired from King Edward Cigar Factory in Jacksonville and was a member of Ebenezer Free Will Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie M. Purcell.

She is survived by a daughter, Evelyn Rudd of Jacksonville, FL; a grandson, Elmer Rudd Jr., of Jacksonville, FL; a granddaughter, Evetter Hendrix of Bryonville, GA; and a great-granddaughter, Monica Martin of Jacksonville, FL; several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Bobby Folsom, Jay Folsom, Jimmy Hendrix, Kenny Long, Ennis Purcell and Charles Moody.

Wilma J. Oliver Deal, 71

Wilma J. Oliver Deal, 71, passed away Sunday morning at her residence. The Tattnall County native had lived in Collins many years, before moving to Statesboro eight months ago. She was a seamstress employed at J.D. Sportswear in Cobbtown for many years. She was a member of Collins Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Deal; son, Tony Oliver; brother, Charles Oliver; sisters, Myrtis Durrence and Myrtle Jane Crabtree.

She is survived by three daughters, Gina Oliver of Savannah, Linda Lamb of Metter and Billie Jean Deal of Statesboro; two sons, Rodney Deal of Statesboro and Jamie Deal of Lyons; sister Neva Collins of Statesboro; two brothers, Taft Oliver of Mt. Vernon and Cleon Oliver of Reidsville; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted 6:00 p.m., on Tuesday, July 17, 2007, at Little Flock Primitive Baptist Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Mary Flake Jarriel, 81

Mrs. Mary Flake Jarriel, 81, died Friday at East Georgia Medical Center. The Bulloch County native lived in Savannah over 40 years before moving to the Cedar Creek community in 1989. Mrs. Jarriel was a homemaker and a representative for Stanley Home Products. She was a member of the Cobbtown Baptist Church and a former member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Savannah. Mary was a wonderful cook who enjoyed hosting the family gatherings. She loved working in her yard, putting up vegetables and caring and cooking for her family. Mary was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved nothing more than spending time with her children and grandchildren. She gave sacrificially of her time and talents to help friends and family members in times of need. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry Coleman Jarriel of Collins; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry Jarriel Jr. and Gail of Cobbtown; daughter and son-in-law, Alice and Steve Kauble of Tulsa, OK; brothers, Jesse Flake of Guyton and Delos Flake of Brooklet; sisters, Ella Nora Parrish of Green Cove Springs, FL and Jane Inez Flake of Atlanta; grandchildren and their spouses, Beth and Dave Bodily of Killeen, TX, Gary and Donnie Jarriel of Cedar Creek, Stephen Kauble and Sarah Kauble both of Tulsa, OK; two great grandchildren, Mitchell and Darci Bodily.

Herbert A. Mobley, 83

Herbert A. Mobley, 83, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at his residence. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville most of his life. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II with the 158th Combat Engineers that went on to the Beach at Normandy in the Battle of Bastone in 1944. He was retired Resident Engineer with Georgia Department of Transportation and served on the Tattnall County Hospital Authority for 12 years. He was a member of First Christian Church for the past 70 years where he also served as a Deacon from 1947 until 2000, then Deacon Emeritus until present.

He is survived by his wife, Mary C. Mobley, of Glennville; sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Carolyn Mobley of Powder Springs and Gary and Donna Mobley of Glennville; brother and sister-in-law, Thurmon and Lila Mobley of Glennville; grandchildren, Melissa and Jeff Rehberg of Doraville, Phillip Mobley and Maranda Mobley, both of Powder Springs, Megan Mobley of Statesboro and Garrett Mobley of Glennville; great-granddaughter, Isabella Rehberg of Doraville; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were held Friday, July 13, 2007, at First Christian Church of Glennville with Reverend Jack Hudson and Reverend James Crockett officiating. Burial followed in the Ebenezer Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors.

George D. Adamson, 79

George D. Adamson, 79, passed away Monday, July 2, 2007, at Memorial Health University Medical Center. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville all of his life. The U.S. Army Veteran, was a graduate of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and the University of Georgia. He was an amateur photographer, an avid naturalist and outdoorsman and a great supporter of the American Indian culture. He was a member of the Glennville United Methodist Church and a farmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Grace Sikes Adamson and a daughter, Amy Adamson Bowen.

Survivors include special friend, Mary Dyer of Glennville; daughters and son-in-law, Paula and Rick Wolf and Christi Adamson, all of Glennville; sister, Lyndal Rogers of Glennville; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 5, 2007, at Glennville City Cemetery with Reverend Vance Riggins officiating.

Jimmie Lee Cain, 74, died Friday, July 6, 2007, at St. Joseph’s / Candler Hospital in Savannah, GA. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael A. Cain; sisters, Anna C. Crawford and Alice C. Robinson; and three brothers, Clifford Cain Sr., Leroy Cain and Jerry Harris.

He is survived by his wife, Milded Miller Cain; son, James A. Cain; daughters, Patricia A. Cain, Jimmie Nell Cain, Jacquelyn (Jeffrey) Horton, Sheila (Gary) Garrett, Toni L. Dorothy B. Durrence, 95, passed away Saturday, July 7, 2007, at Glenvue Nursing Home under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville all of her life. She retired from Food Services with the Tattnall County Board of Education. She was a member of Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Adult Sunday School Class, Ladies Circle and the Choir.

She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Talmadge Todd, Linda and Ed Banks, and LeGay and Bobby Fuller all of Glennville; son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Bytha Durrence of Glennville; sister, Claudine Bland of Glennville; half sisters, Frances Bouy, Willene Brewton, Johnnie Lou Mitchell all of Savannah; nine grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Gevonnie “Juke” Sauls, 54, of Pembroke, died July 6, 2007, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro, after a sudden illness. Mr. Sauls was a native of Bryan County, having lived most of his life in the Pembroke area. He was retired, an avid hunter and fisherman and Baptist by faith.

Survivors include, his wife, Catherine Sauls; two daughters, Katie Sauls and Heather Sauls all of Pembroke; one brother and sister-in-law, Archie and Janice Sauls of Nevils and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Monday, July 9, 2007, in Carter Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jackie officiating. Burial followed in the Green Bay Cemetery, in Fort Stewart, GA.

Jimmy E. Todd, 65, passed away at his residence under the care of Pearls of Life Hospice. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville all of his life. He was retired from Canoochee Electric Membership Corporation and was a member of Watermelon Creek Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ennis and Bertha DeLoach Todd; sisters, Eula and Irene; brother, James Todd; Grandson, Michael Allen Ansel, II.

He is survived by his wife Mary E. Todd of Glennville; children, Eric Garvin of Savannah, Carlton Todd, Edwin Todd, Lisa Clark, Lynne Todd, Beth Ray and Harry Garvin, all of Glennville; sisters, Myrtle Caison of Glennville, Nadine Carter of Yulee, FL, Amanda Moody of Baxley and Janice Pulchinski of Chicago, IL; brothers, Larry Todd of Falkville, Roger Todd of Hinesville, Ronald Todd and Harold Todd, both of Glennville; nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Stewart Morris Beck, 64, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2007, at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro. He was born in Lenoir, NC, and lived in Glennville for the past 30 years. He was employed with the City of Glennville for many years and retired from the Tattnall County Road Department. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Beck; parents, Foy and Girdie Beck; brother, Glenn Beck and sister, Alma Picrola.

He is survived by his children, Stewart Beck of Crystal River, FL, Kathy Johnson of Glennville and Patsy Buck of Statesboro; brother and sister-in-law, Dell and Anita Beck of Crystal River, FL; sisters and brother-in-law, Carolyn A. Jones and Linda Watson both of Lenoir, NC, Alene and Lewis Aldridge of Salisbury, NC; sixteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Joyce Dickerson, 70, passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2007, at her residence under the care of Pearls of Life Hospice. She was born in Madison, FL. She moved to Glennville in 1950. She was the former owner/operator of C&D Truck Stop in Glennville and was of the Catholic Faith.

She is survived by her husband, Don Dickerson of Glennville; daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Terry Dasher of Glennville; son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Glenda Dickerson of Statesboro; grandchildren, Vicky and Casey Bruce, Ricky Dukes, Jr., all of Glennville, Paige Dickerson of Statesboro and Don Thompson of Scottsdale, AZ; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Friday, June 29, 2007, at 1:30 p.m. at the Chapel of Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home with Rev. Oscar Rowe, Jr., and Rev. Jerry Knight officiating. Burial followed in Glennville City Cemetery.

Mrs. Retta Durden, 68, passed away Thursday, June 28, 2007, at her residence. The Indiana native had lived in Glennville for the past twenty-three years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Delmas Durden.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Terry L. and Carol A. Chastain of Salem, Ind.; a stepson, Taron Durden of Milledgeville, GA; a stepdaughter, Delaree Fine of Pittsburgh, PA; two sisters, Betty Harden and Lou Ann Hamilton, both of Salem, Ind.; four brothers, Ray Chastain of Bradenton, FL, Jim Chastain of Henderson, NC, Dennis Chastain and Tom Chastain, both of Salem, NC; four grandchildren, Tammy Lopez of Charles Town, Ind., Christina Barro of New Albany, Ind., Terry D. Chastain of San Antonio, TX, and Cory Chastain of Salem, Ind.; nine great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Lula Powell, 73

Miss Lula Powell, 73, of Lyons died Friday, June 29, 2007, at Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia. She was born in Tattnall County, the daughter of the late Leonard Powell, Sr., and Katie T. Powell, and lived there many years before moving to Lyons in 1976. She retired from the Toombs Manufacturing Company and was a Baptist.

She is survived by two brothers and a sister-in-law, Leonard Powell, Jr., and Mozelle, and Marvin Powell, all of Lyons; four sisters, Eula Edwards, Tera Collins and Carolyn Dyer, all of Lyons, and Joyce Edge of Normantown; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Sunday, July 1 at 2 p.m. at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, with burial in the Cedar Creek Cemetery.

Tina Marie Rallo, 46

Tina Marie Rallo, 46, of Glennville, died Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at Ogeechee Area Hospice after a sudden illness. She was a native of New Jersey, but lived in the Georgia area since 2000. She was a sales representative for Cingular Company and was Catholic by faith.

She is survived by her mother, Darlene Lee; brother, Al Lee, both of Glennville; six children, TeAnn Kelly, Cathren Fleigler, Candice Wojton, Bernard Joly, Nicholas Joly and Sklar Joly; one grandson, Jonathan Kelly, all of Pennsylvania; one sister, Valerie Mays of Oklahoma; and one step-brother, Robert E. Lee of New Jersey.

T.E. Terrell, 71

Mr. T.E. Terrell, 71, died on Sunday, July 1, 2007, at Hospice Savannah.

Mr. Terrell was born in Toombs County to the late Lelon and Agnes Terrell. He was a member of Life Spring Worship Center and served his country in the U.S. Army. He retired from Action Auto and he enjoyed bird watching, fishing, and he loved and respected nature. He was a Volkswagon enthusiast and he was part of a team that holds the world record for building the quickest Volkswagon [Winks Wagon]. He loved and dedicated his life to the Lord.

Survivors include his children, Wanda Cawthorn of Bloomingdale, Rhonda Winzenrith of Virginia, Tim (Janna) Terrell of Rincon and Rev. Ken (Shannon) Terrell of Savannah; sixteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; brothers, Jack Terrell of Glennville, Shady Terrell of Faulkville and Reggie Terrell of Savannah; sisters, Doris McCullough of Pooler and Bobbie White of Pooler, several nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Chopper.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 6 in the chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Ken Terrell and Rev. Juile Stanley officiating. Burial to follow at Westside Memorial Gardens with military honors.

Olera Williams, 93

Mother Olera Williams, affectionately known as Sister Will, died Thursday, June 28, 2007, at Evans Memorial Hospital in Claxton.

She was born on October 26, 1913, in Evans County to Willis and Pennie Ann Bacon (now deceased). She was the oldest of six brothers and sisters. She was educated in the Evans County School System.

She was united in holy matrimony to Will Willis Williams (now deceased). To this union, 11 children were born. Two preceded her in death.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories seven daughters: Ocilla Jackson, Minister Jeanette Williams, and Lavern Relaford, all of East Point; Pennie Everett of Decatur; Lizzie Miller of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; and Jannie (Ben) Hillian of Fredericksburg, Virginia; two sons, Joe Williams of Ft. Lauderdale and Robert Williams of Glennville; 25 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; (Three grandchildren, she raised as her own - Minister Harry Lovett of Ft. Lauderdale, Harvey Moody of Ft. Valley, and Jamil Williams of Union City); and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.

Wake service will be held at the Center of Life Church of God in Glennville on Friday, July 6, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, July 7, at Simmons Temple Church of Christ in Collins. Burial will be in Eureka Cemetery in Hagan.

Lonnie (Mickey) Wilson, Sr., 57

Mr. Lonnie (Mickey) Wilson, Sr., 57, of Statesboro, GA, died suddenly Tuesday, June 19, 2007, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center. Mr. Wilson was a native of Candler County and lived in Statesboro most of his life. He was a carpenter by trade. He loved to fish, was loved by all and he will be missed by everyone. He was Baptist by faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie N. and Zadie Wilson; a brother, Roy Wilson; a sister, Louise Mincey and a daughter, Diane Rodriguez.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Wilson; a son, Lonnie Wilson, Jr.; a daughter, Patricia Wilson, all of Statesboro; one son, Frank Wilson of Glennville; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 23, 2007, at 2 p.m. with Reverend Dane Glisson officiating. Interment followed in the El Bethel Cemetery, near Twin City.
